This wedding took place at Lizton Lodge in Lizton Indiana and it truly felt like stepping into another world. The venue started as a private residence and now sits as a 22,000 square foot estate tucked into 100 acres of secluded land. Everywhere you turn there is rich woodwork, unique chandeliers, cozy rooms, and grounds that feel private and peaceful. It has this old world charm that makes everything feel intentional and warm.
The couple themselves were quiet and reserved, but so genuinely kind. The kind of people who don’t need to be loud to be felt. Their personalities came through in subtle ways. Soft smiles, gentle laughs, and the way they stayed close to each other all day. I loved working with them. It felt calm and steady in the best way.
Both getting ready spaces were incredible. The bride’s room was filled with beautiful light and thoughtful details. The groom’s space had depth and texture that photographed so well. These rooms alone could sell the venue. The bride’s dress was an absolute dream. Flowing, romantic, and elegant in a way that felt straight out of a fairy tale. From the moment she stepped into it, the tone of the day was set.
Formal photos followed and we kept things moving. I love working through motion even during portraits. Walking, shifting weight, small interactions. It brings out personality and keeps things feeling natural. Movement adds energy and honesty to images. You could see them relax more as we went, settling into the rhythm of the day.
The ceremony took place in front of the pond, surrounded by greenery and open sky. It felt peaceful and intimate. The light was bright and direct, which meant leaning into clean compositions and honest moments. Expressions, hands held tightly, the way they looked at each other. Those moments always matter more than anything else. Family reactions, quiet tears, small smiles. That’s where the story lives.
The reception completely shifted the mood in the best way. It was full of energy and joy. Laughter carried through the space and the evening felt relaxed and celebratory. Guests spilled outside for yard games and roasting marshmallows, which felt very fitting for the setting. There was space to breathe, to wander, to enjoy being together.
As the sun lowered, we snuck away for sunset photos. We hopped on a golf cart and headed down one of the tree lined paths and then over to an iconic Indiana cornfield. It somehow added to the story instead of taking away from it. Romantic, grounded, and a little bit magical. Very Indiana, but still very much a fairy tale.
This day was full of quiet beauty, intentional moments, and a setting that elevated everything without overpowering it. Weddings like this are why I love Indiana wedding photography.
