This wedding took place at the Legacy Barn in Kokomo Indiana and it was one of those winter days that sticks with you. The Legacy Barn sits on twelve acres and has a long history behind it. Built in 1884, later transformed into a dairy farm, and eventually restored into a wedding venue, it carries a lot of character. Rustic, welcoming, and perfect for a smaller celebration.
The couple were super chill and easy going. They knew exactly what they wanted and what they didn’t. No getting ready photos. No extra fluff. They wanted something intimate and relaxed, so we jumped straight into their first look. Since it was a December wedding and daylight disappears fast, we knocked out formals early before the sun dipped too low.
It was cold. Real Indiana December cold. They still wanted outdoor photos, so we bundled up and made it happen. About twenty minutes outside, quick and efficient, and completely worth it. The winter light paired with the barn and open land gave the photos a quiet, simple feel that fit them perfectly.
After that, it was straight into the ceremony. The barn was decorated for Christmas and it completely changed the atmosphere. Warm lights, seasonal greenery, and rich winter colors made the space feel cozy and cheerful. I don’t get to photograph many Christmas weddings, so when I do it always feels special. It’s such a nice shift from summer and fall weddings and it photographs beautifully.
The ceremony was heartfelt and relaxed, surrounded by close family and friends. Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt forced. Just people gathered to celebrate two very grounded humans committing to each other.
The reception carried that same warmth. Lots of dancing, lots of conversation, and plenty of laughter filling the barn.
Weddings like this are a reminder that smaller doesn’t mean less meaningful. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer who shoots all over Indiana, I love days like this. Winter weddings, intimate guest lists, historic barns, and couples who trust the process and focus on what matters. This one had all of it and I’m so glad I got to be part of it.
