This micro wedding took place at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis with the reception following at the Skyline Club and it was such a refreshing change of pace. The Indiana State House offers small weddings that feel intentional and intimate without sacrificing beauty. The building itself is stunning. Tall columns, intricate stonework, sweeping staircases, and stained glass that catches the light. It feels historic and grounded and surprisingly warm for such a grand space.
The couple were happy go lucky from start to finish. Calm, excited, fully present. Micro weddings tend to bring that out in people. Fewer distractions, fewer moving parts, more room to actually enjoy what’s happening. We focused on movement instead of posing. Walking through the halls, laughing on the steps, letting moments unfold naturally. That approach always helps personalities come through and these two were a joy to photograph.
One of the things I love most about micro weddings is how personal they feel. Every guest matters. Every reaction feels close. There’s no rush to check boxes or stick to a rigid timeline. It leaves space for connection and that shows in the photos every single time. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, these are some of my favorite days to document.
After the ceremony we headed to the Skyline Club for the reception and honestly I did not expect to find something like that in Indianapolis. The views were unreal. You could see for miles. Downtown stretched out below us and it gave the night such a cool unexpected energy. Being that high up with the city glowing around them felt like a quiet little victory lap.
I was so lucky to capture some amazing shots of downtown Indy from way up high. The reception was very casual, natural interactions, relaxed moments, nothing forced or planned besides socialize with the people they were closest to. The couple soaked it all in and you could tell they were exactly where they wanted to be. Small guest list, big feelings, incredible setting.
Micro weddings like this are a reminder that weddings don’t have to be big to be meaningful. They’re intentional, intimate, and incredibly fun to photograph. If you’re planning a micro wedding in Indianapolis or anywhere in Indiana, I’m always here for that. Truly. These days are special and I love capturing them.
