This wedding took place at the Ritz Charles in Carmel Indiana and I’m sharing it entirely in black and white. Partly because it fits the day so well and partly because black and white wedding photos are something I care a lot about. They strip a moment down to what matters. Expression, light, texture, emotion. When color steps out of the way, everything else gets louder.
The couple were relaxed, joyful, and fully present. That kind of energy translates beautifully in black and white. Every smile, every glance, every quiet pause feels a little more timeless. The Ritz Charles has such a classic feel with its architecture and formal spaces, and black and white photography highlights that elegance in a way color sometimes can’t.
Black and white photos hit hard because they aren’t distracting. You notice hands squeezing tighter during the ceremony. The way parents watch from the front row. The movement on the dance floor when the night really gets going. These moments don’t need color to be powerful. They just need to be seen.
For all of my weddings, I always deliver a thoughtful mix of color and black and white images. I choose black and white intentionally based on light, emotion, and story. And if couples ever want more, they can absolutely ask. Some days call for more of it and I’m always happy to lean into that request.
This wedding had so many moments that begged for black and white. The ceremony, the reactions, the energy of the reception. It felt right to tell this story in a way that feels classic and lasting.
As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, my goal is always to create images that hold up over time. Black and white wedding photography does that in a way few things can. This day at the Ritz Charles was a perfect reminder of why I love working in both color and black and white and why it will always be a big part of how I tell wedding stories.
