This engagement session took place at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville Kentucky with a walk through downtown and it was such a fun way to spend the evening. Louisville holds a lot of meaning for this couple. They were in the middle of a big transition, getting ready to move to Indianapolis, and wanted to capture this chapter before turning the page. Choosing the art museum made perfect sense since they’re both big fans of art and love spaces that feel creative and bold.
From the start they were happy go lucky and easy to be around. Smiling, laughing, relaxed. We kept things moving the whole time. Walking, talking, spinning, drifting from one spot to the next. Movement always helps photos feel natural and it brings out personality without asking people to overthink what they’re doing. The museum’s clean lines and open spaces paired so well with that approach.
After the museum we headed into downtown Louisville and let the city play a supporting role. Crosswalks, sidewalks, quick pauses between buildings. The session felt more like a stroll than a photo shoot. You could see them warming up even more as we went, falling into an easy rhythm together.
We wrapped things up on top of a parking garage and it was such a fun way to end the night. Open sky, city views, wind in their hair, and that feeling of freedom that always comes when you’re above it all. It felt celebratory and light, like a small victory lap before their next chapter begins.
Engagement sessions like this are some of my favorites. They’re relaxed, personal, and a chance to tell a story that actually means something to the couple. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, I love when couples bring their history into the process. After spending this time with them, I can’t wait to photograph their wedding day and keep that story going.
