This engagement session took place at Holliday Park in Indianapolis, which is honestly one of my favorite places to shoot. The park has a ton of character. Originally donated to the city in the 1920s, it has trails, woods, open fields, and even the ruins of the old Wissner Estate. That mix of natural beauty and historic architecture makes it easy to create variety in a session without leaving one spot. For photos, it’s a dream. You get forested backgrounds, open light, hidden corners, and the freedom to move around.
The couple was so sweet and fun to work with. They laughed easily, joked with each other, and made it simple to capture the way they really are. The session felt effortless from the start. We started wandering the trails, talking and just letting things unfold naturally.
We timed the session perfectly for sunset, which gave us this incredible warm light that felt soft but vibrant. That golden hour glow made every image feel intimate and romantic. The light paired perfectly with their playful energy.
Movement was a huge part of the session. I love when couples let me work with motion. Walking, spinning, little jumps, brushing hands together, leaning into each other. All of that adds a feeling you just can’t fake with a static pose. The energy they brought, combined with the way the wind and light moved around them, gave every photo a little spark of life.
Holliday Park makes that easy. There are quiet trails, open fields, and spots that feel private even when the park has visitors. The historic stone walls and bridges give texture and character, the trees frame people in a natural way, and the open areas let movement look effortless. That combination lets me focus on the couple without worrying about the background.
By the end of the session, they weren’t thinking about the camera. They were just laughing, walking, and being themselves. That’s when photos really start to tell a story. It’s the way I love to shoot engagement sessions in Indianapolis. Real personalities, real connections, and a little bit of the city’s history in the background.
Holliday Park, golden hour, movement, laughter...it all came together to show their personalities and the way they feel together. That’s what makes engagement photography in Indianapolis so much fun.
