We started this engagement session at Bottleworks Hotel in Indianapolis. The couple wanted an urban feel, something that reflected their hometown, and Bottleworks delivered. The architecture, the clean lines, the little details everywhere gave the session instant energy.
They were nervous at first. Told me they didn’t really know how to pose. That’s okay. I actually hear that a lot and my job is to make you comfortable and show your personality. I move people, get them laughing, let them interact, and just watch their personality come out. By the time we made it to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument downtown on the monument circle, they were relaxed and totally themselves. You could see it in the way they moved and how they leaned into each other.
I love working with movement. Static images are fine, but the magic happens when people are walking, spinning, talking, even pretending to ignore me. For these two we played around a lot, walking down streets, leaning on walls, laughing at dumb jokes and even running. The energy is different when you let it flow naturally.
They were so easy to work with, genuinely in love, and that makes all the difference. By the end of the session they weren’t thinking about the camera at all. They were just them and that is exactly what I am looking for as an Indianapolis engagement photographer.
Indianapolis has a way of showing itself in photos if you let it. The urban textures of Bottleworks, the grandeur of the monument, the streets in between all frame a story without ever being forced. For a couple who wanted this session to feel true to who they are, it worked perfectly.
