Every once in a while I like to strip things back and post only black and white images. This session felt like the right time to do that. Black and white photography has a way of cutting straight to what matters. Expression, movement, connection. No distractions. Just people being themselves. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, this is one of my favorite ways to tell a story.
We photographed this engagement session at Newfields in Indianapolis, which is one of the most popular spots for engagement photos in the city and for good reason. The grounds are expansive without feeling overwhelming. Clean lines, historic architecture, open spaces, quiet paths. It gives you variety without needing to go far. The couple secured the required permit, which is part of shooting here, and it made the whole experience smooth and relaxed.
Black and white works especially well at Newfields. The textures of the buildings, the contrast of light and shadow, the way the space frames people rather than competing with them. It all translates beautifully. This couple was easygoing and fully present, which made my job simple. We moved, we walked, we let moments happen instead of posing through everything. That approach is a big part of how I work and why these images feel natural.
Indiana wedding photography does not always need color to be powerful. Sometimes removing it lets the story breathe a little more. This session is a good reminder of that and a good example of why I love black and white as much as I do.
