This wedding took place at Owl Ridge in Zionsville Indiana and it was one of those days that reminded me why I love photographing weddings start to finish for the same couple. I had the chance to photograph their engagement session and their wedding and it made the day feel familiar in the best way. They are incredibly sweet, calm, and easy going, which always sets the tone for a relaxed celebration.
Owl Ridge sits tucked into the woods with views of Owl Creek and the surrounding landscape. The space feels removed from everything else. Tall trees, quiet paths, wildlife nearby, and a building that invites people to slow down and settle in. Inside, the stone fireplace, open layout, and large windows create a warm gathering space that works beautifully for fall weddings.
They were married in the fall, which is hands down one of my favorite seasons to photograph. The color palettes feel rich and grounded and the light has a softness to it that’s hard to beat. It was a rainy day and you can see that in the photos. The rain started just as guests were arriving for the ceremony and then stopped right before the bride walked down the aisle. The timing couldn’t have been better.
The ceremony itself was emotional and intimate. Guests were close, reactions were easy to catch, and the energy felt focused and present. The rain added a quiet mood to the day that photographed beautifully. After the ceremony we were a little limited for outdoor formals because of mud, but we worked with what we had and made it happen. Sometimes constraints help you get more creative and this was one of those times.
The reception completely flipped the energy. Laughter, dancing, and plenty of movement filled the space. At one point the couple’s friends surprised them by showing up in blow up wiener dog costumes, which was a first for me and instantly turned the room into chaos and joy. The mood shifted fast and the dance floor followed.
Weddings like this are such a reminder that you don’t need perfect weather or a rigid plan for a day to feel meaningful. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, I love documenting days that unfold naturally, especially when I already know the couple and how they move together. This one had emotion, laughter, rain, and inflatable dogs. Hard to beat that combination.
