This wedding took place at The Heirloom at N.K. Hurst in Indianapolis Indiana and it had such a cool grounded energy from the start. The building dates back to the 19th century and originally functioned as a printing company before becoming home to the N.K. Hurst Co. for decades. Beans, peas, lentils, sweeteners. Very Indiana. In 2019 the operations moved and the space was restored into what it is now. An industrial venue with massive proportions, original details, and so much character it honestly does half the work for you.
The couple were straight up excited to get married. No nerves, no overthinking. Just happy and ready. They were incredibly easy going and knew exactly what they cared about. Less time on getting ready photos and formals and more focus on the ceremony and reception. I love when couples trust their instincts like that. It sets the tone for the entire day.
Both getting ready rooms were fantastic. Clean lines, great light, and enough texture to make even simple moments feel intentional. Even though they didn’t want much coverage during this part of the day, what we did capture felt relaxed and real. No rush, no fuss. Just people getting ready for something big.
The ceremony took place inside the venue and it fit the space perfectly. The Heirloom has this way of feeling industrial without being cold. The exposed elements, tall ceilings, and open layout make everything feel elevated but still warm. The couple were all smiles walking down the aisle. You could feel how ready they were for this moment. The energy was contagious. Guests were locked in, cheering them on, fully present.
Formals were quick and efficient by design. We moved through them with ease and didn’t overdo it. The venue’s architecture gave us strong backdrops without needing to try too hard. Sometimes less really is more, especially when the space already has so much visual interest.
Then came the reception and this is where the day really took off. The energy shifted into full celebration mode. Music up, people on the dance floor early, lots of movement and laughter. This couple wanted to be in it with their people and they absolutely were. That kind of joy photographs itself.
The Heirloom at N.K. Hurst is one of those Indianapolis wedding venues that feels intentional and alive. It holds history without feeling heavy and gives couples space to make the day their own. This wedding was a great reminder that you don’t need to overpack a timeline to have a meaningful day. Focus on what matters, let the rest fall into place. That’s where the good stuff lives.
